This is my favorite photo of DOU and BAO. I love the cozy, warm, and loving feeling it captured. When I began planning the proposal, it became the reference for the figure I wanted to make for her.

The proposal
My first plan was a surprise musical party on the beach. I casually showed DOU videos of other proposals and soon learned that anything public was out. So I went with plan B: dinner with friends at a restaurant we liked, and our usual stop at the blind-box shop while waiting for the table.
I hired a designer to turn the photo into a character and worked with them on a few variations, including the wedding version. The result went beyond what I had imagined. I had it 3D-printed and painted, and when DOU entered the shop, it was waiting with the ring among the flowers and balloons.

Afterward
From there, I drew my own version of DOU on the iPad. Later I started the DOU Family pixel-art collection, using the characters to remember more moments from our life.
