A Web3 identity world my friends and I imagined around a growing cast of characters—and where I first became 3n4.

GM. It was 2022, the year of Web3, NFTs, and a lot of FOMO. I was in it too. peeps began with some random character sketches from our artist. I thought they could become a collection, came up with the name peeps, and somewhere in the middle of it found the alias I still use here: 3n4.
The early peeps
A world around the peeps
The central idea was an online identity born inside the peeps world, then growing outward into the larger Web3 world. We imagined characters gaining traits and possessions, connecting through ENS, and taking part in a community. Births, milestones, a shop, pets, voting, and a treasury all appeared in our notes. Treasury was an English word I had just learned; soon we were using it in everyday conversation.

What made it out
We never published the NFT collection, but the community we wanted to build gave us things to keep exploring. One hackathon produced the standalone ENS L2 support project. At ETHOnline we turned peeps online into a social profile with an introduction, links, a timeline, and an NFT gallery at peeps.onl/3n4.

What stayed
3n4 stayed with me and is still the portrait I use on this site. Two years later, I redrew the group myself in pixels; they now live together in the archive as the peeps collection. It’s been real.
